Check Out the Original Movie’s ‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Trailer Easter Eggs
After 30 years, the beloved Halloween classic, Hocus Pocusgets a sequel.
The Sanderson sisters may have died in the first movie, but that never stopped them from coming back to haunt them before. As the ominous trailer for the film best says: “Some legends never die.”
The sisters, Mary (Kathy Najimi), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Winifred (Bette Midler) return this year on September 30, just in time for Halloween.
Hocus Pocus 2 not only features a new plot for the Sanderson sisters, but also introduces new cast members and a new director. The original actresses reprized their roles as Mary, Sarah and Winifred, but this time two new teenage girls bring them to life.
Under the direction of Anne Fletcher, Gossip Girl revival star Whitney Peak, Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham, RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Kornbread Jeet, Ginger Minj and Kahmora Hall – along with many other notable names – make up the film’s cast.
The recent trailer otherwise speculated that the movie wouldn’t be the same without former director Kenny Ortega.

Of course, in Disney fashion, there are a few Easter eggs to watch for in the trailer. You’ll see relics from the original film, including the Black Flame candle, Billy Butcherson’s grave, a black cat, and the famous spell book.
The bartender in the trailer also wears the same costume as the bartender in the 1993 film. And even the exterior of Jacob Bailey High School hasn’t changed at all in the 30 years leading up to the sequel. Listen closely and you’ll hear the same itch-it-a-cop-it-a Mel-a-ka-mystica and Sarah singing “Come Little Children” both featured in the original.
Let Disney take care of the finer details. Look for these Easter eggs in the trailer and start counting down the days until the Sanderson sisters return!
