Afterlife Featurette Highlights the Movie’s Many Easter Eggs

Filmmaker Jason Reitman is an acclaimed director in his own right, but adding more credibility to the reasons he was chosen to direct Ghostbusters: the afterlife is that he’s the son of original director Ivan Reitman, arguably making Jason one of the show’s biggest fans. This means that while there are a number of obvious ways the latest film in the series references what came before it, there are dozens of subtle nods to the franchise that audiences don’t. may not have caught on the big screen, with the video below highlighting some of those Easter Eggs that viewers may not have spotted when they first viewed them. Ghostbusters: the afterlife is now available on Digital HD and will be released on February 1, 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray and DVD.

From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman comes the next chapter of the original ghost hunters universe. In Ghostbusters: the afterlife, when a single mother and her two children arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film is written by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan.

This is only a fraction of the movie’s Easter Eggs, with its personal video release including a featurette highlighting the other references spotted throughout the adventure. Full special features of the version include the following:

  • We have one! Easter eggs revealed
  • ghost hunters: A look back
  • A look to the future
  • Bringing Ecto-1 back to life

While it was obviously important to honor everything that came before it, this new film was also meant to spark excitement in a new generation of heroes, as co-writer Kenan previously detailed.

“As always, when you talk about a great movie like this that has so many secrets up its sleeve, I have to be extremely careful when I talk about that,” Kenan told the Just The Facts podcast with Alex Zane. “But I will say, from what we were able to put out there, the important thing is to communicate what is sincerely at the center of it all: who are we as writers, as storytellers, Jason and me, keeping the flame alight. “

He added: “The flame that ignited for us – no matter how heavy the proximity to the source of the ghost hunters legend – for both of us as audience members, as pure audience members who were moved and changed upon seeing Ghost hunters. It kindled a flame within both of us that we felt we could keep burning for people like us who shared it as young audiences and a new generation of audiences who could feel the same extent of thrills, of terror, wonder, comedy, movie magic. So I hope all of that will survive in our movie. “
