Easter Bunny Leaves Mechanicsivlle Woman $100,000 Scratch

The Easter Bunny left a nest egg of $100,000 hidden in the home of a Mechanicsville couple last weekend. The husband, who is an avid lottery player, often encourages his wife to join him in scratching fun. Their Easter surprise was his discovery of a top prize of $100,000 lucky $100,000 scratch she took from her husband’s pile of unplayed games.

“I’ll let you know that I win absolutely nothing,” she announced on April 18 when she claimed her prize. As for her husband, who encourages her to play, she bursts out laughing and says: “Now he is angry, I chose the winning ticket!”

Nicknamed ‘Holiday Luck’, the 52-year-old explained her husband’s lottery strategy. The St. Mary’s County resident likes to stop at different retailers to pick up games and bought the winning $100,000 scratch prize at NSR Market #001 (aka Korner Karryout) at 27350 Three Notch Road in Mechanicsville.

As usual, he bought a series of tickets in the $5 and $10 range. However, breaking with the routine, he added $30 lucky $100,000 to scratch.

It’s the very game that “Holiday Luck” picked from the pile on Easter. She scraped off all the latex, glanced at the instant ticket, and said, “That’s not even a winner.” Her husband wanted to make sure she was right. He used the Lottery smartphone app to scan the ticket’s QR code and informed his wife that she was wrong in a good way.

Most of the winning proceeds will end up in the Holiday Luck money market account for retirement. A portion of the funds will be used to pay for a memorial bench in honor of a deceased son. “Holiday Luck” also plans to spend some of the windfall on a trip to England “to make memories” with her daughter, who accompanied her to claim the prize.

The lottery retailer also shares the fun. For selling a scratch lot of $100,000, NSR Market #001 wins a bonus of $1,000, equal to 1% of the prize value.
